HELLO! My name is Ren! You may or may not already be familiar with me via my art socials, but if not, it's nice to meet you!
Solstryx is a project I've been working on for most of 2024. It's been something that I've wanted to do for a few years now, but till I got better at sewing and making plushies, and while I still held a full time job, it was not the most feasible to do. In August of 2024, my company at the time took a hit and I got retrenched with everyone, giving me the chance to pursue this venture.
I am first and foremostly an illustrator who also does most other variants of 2D work for commercial and hobby purposes. I've enjoyed creating characters for most of my life and always said that in my career, what I enjoy the most about my work is bringing characters to life. Now that I am a budding plushie artist with a sturdy set of sewing and embroidery machines at home, I can turn those dreams into a reality. It's something I've invested in fueled purely by love for plushies and art.
Vision
The idea for Solstryx is based off the internet's concept of "Adoptables", something a lot of artists and netizens online have grown up with. Adoptables are basically designs created and sold online where people can buy or bid on them with currency to then later own them at their own disposal. The creature thus becomes "owned" by them.
I wanted to take that concept and make it more tangible. I wanted a Solstryx's owner to really get to own and hold a design made that was uniquely tied to them.
If they chose to "adopt" a Solstryx from my shop or booth, it is now bonded to them.
Every Solstryx is handmade by me, by hand at home, and even if it means being differenciated by a mole— every piece is unique.
OF COURSE this means that they are relatively expensive to produce and count for more as art collectables than mass produced plushies. But this is what makes them really special to both me and their new owner and what I feel adds to the value of owning a Solstryx.
It's a really intense hobby for me and I just hope people would like to come along on this journey as well! ^^ There will be Solstryx trinkets apart from the main plushies available as well.
Only adult and chick plushies count for valid Solstryx ownership.
Keychains, stickers, postcards and other types of items are
just trinkets that fans of Solstryx can get to support the species.
